Significance

“A recent trend is to give only the main aspects of the paper and post all additional or “less important” aspects as “supplemental materials” on the journal’s website (Nair and Nair 14).

In this passage it is showing how the significant the main points of a paper is and how they take everything that is not that important and leave it out or put it aside. So it is not the main thing that you are looking out when you read the paper.

Practices

“I asked Eliza (before she began reading) to stop every paragraph support and answer the question, “How do you interpret the text now?’” (Haas 55).

By doing this you are in the practice of teaching because Eliza is being taught how to properly write certain parts of writings.

Identities

“Because Eliza did not identify me with any department… I believe she felt free to give honest and detailed descriptions of her teachers, assignments, and coursework…” (Haas 51)

In this quote, Eliza is not sure of her identity, when you have a certain identity people look at you and talk to you as if you are always walking around using that identity. It is what makes a person themselves.

“Each journal has its own style; but they all have their own instructions to authors” (Nair and Nair 13).

In this quote, it talks about how journals are all different. Even if there were two journals about the same exact thing, they would both be different because the author who is writing it has there own person identity that they are reffered to by.

Connections

“The educational task of helping students recognize the human nature of scientific activity and rhetorical nature of scientific texts may be part of a larger problem in academic literacy for students: a “myth of autonomous texts that seems to operate in academic setting at entry level’” (Haas 45).

Hass talks about how teachers have connections with kids when they have them as students. This connection can go through out an entire life time.
